History The growth of our brand: WeWire

Our company can look back on a company history dating back to the 1920s. At that time. the family’s 25-year-old son Fritz Müller founded the company “Fritz Müller Elektroisoliermaterial” in Wuppertal. With a loan of 6,000 Reichsmark, courage, and conviction, he paved the way for today’s Coroplast Group and its subsidiary brands WeWire, Coroflex, and Coroplast Tape.

Founding of the company and reconstruction

The early years were marked by ups and downs for the young company. In 1929, the world economic crisis was mastered with courage and conviction. The small company with five employees produced textiles, lacquered hoses, and varnished cables for cars (copper braided conductors). Customers included well-known machine manufacturers such as AEG and automobile manufacturers. In the mid-1930s, insulated wires were then also produced, for example for lighting and telephone systems. However, production came to a standstill due to the Second World War; the plant in Wuppertal was destroyed, and the company had to start anew in 1945.

Production already started again before the foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany: As early as 1946, the company produced prefabricated cable harnesses and large-scale cables. After the introduction of the new company name, Coroplast, its triumphant progress started with reconstruction and the German “economic miracle” (Miracle on the Rhine). The Wuppertal company also took a strong part in the general optimistic mood thanks to the continuous expansion of production and distribution network as well as the expansion of the product range.

Another milestone in the company’s history was the appointment of Dr. Kurt Müller to the management board in 1976. He had decisive influence in shaping the company for the next 30 years. In the mid-1980s, production and sales of wire harnesses began. Using cables and adhesive tape manufactured in-house, the company produced entire wire harnesses for customers from the automobile, electrical, and household appliances industries. The decision to expand the cable harness production division represents a break in the company’s history, which continues to have an impact to the present day.

In 1994, Coroplast first ventured abroad and founded its first site in Poland where wire harness systems are produced. Further locations follow, so that Coroplast has been on its way to become an international production association since 2010.

In 2020, Coroplast’s former Technical Adhesive Tapes, Wires & Cables, and Wire Harnesses Business Units were split into separate brands, which function under the umbrella of Coroplast Group. In addition to WeWire, Coroplast Tape and Coroflex were created.
