With our social commitment, we want to contribute to a greater stability in society - worldwide. In this respect, the issue of education plays a key role. Young people need the opportunity to go to school close to their home. A good education can open up opportunities for the rest of their lives. For this reason, it is important for us to support projects in Africa that implement their activities locally - and thus have a direct impact on the people.
Sporting ambition and social responsibility
At this year's "Wuppertal Challenge" running event, the focus was not only on sporting ambition; the 140 international colleagues also collected the running kilometers for a good cause: for every kilometer, one euro in the donation pot - the Coroplast Group made this promise right at the start of the Challenge and kept it.
Runners from Poland, Mexico, the USA, China and Germany gave their best for four weeks, sweated for the common goal and were able to grab the winner's trophy at the end.
With around 10,000 km, the Coroplast Group team won the Challenge by a significant distance. The colleagues collected more than twice as many kilometers worldwide as the second- and third-placed company teams. Reason enough for the management to double the total donation to EUR 20,000.
A great team success. All team members can be proud of their impressive effort. This extraordinary achievement was only possible due to the international commitment. Our international team spirit is therefore also reflected in our charitable commitment to internationally active organizations.
Digital handover of donations
The representatives of the social institutions, Ulrich Schmidla (Christan-Liebig-Stiftung e.V.) and Helga Armbruster (Forum Wiedenest e.V.), were connected digitally via telephone conference for the handover of donations. On this occasion, they described their impressive work on site. Impressions that also inspired Natalie Mekelburger and Torben Kämmerer.
About the facilities
Christian-Liebig-Stiftung e.V.
Since 2003, the Christian-Liebig-Stiftung e.V. has been supporting a number of educational projects in Africa, especially in Malawi, with the aim of providing development assistance on equal terms. In the past 18 years, the organization has built, expanded, renovated or extended more than 25 schools. At the heart of its work is the Christian Liebig Secondary School near Blantyre, which has since been expanded to include a girls' dormitory that primarily accommodates disadvantaged young women. Since last year, the Corona pandemic has also been a relevant topic. Focusing on the pandemic, the construction of several wells has significantly improved hygiene conditions on site. For many students and their families, the often kilometer-long walks to the water points are now a thing of the past, because the new wells have been built just around the corner.
Forum Wiedenest e.V.
The mission of Forum Wiedenest e.V. has been working in Tanzania since 1957 and has combined the proclamation of the Bible with diaconal activities from the very beginning. This has led to the establishment of a number of institutions, such as a hospital, training schools and also the Mkwaju elementary school in 2003. At this single-grade school, priority is given to high-quality general education and education of the heart. Learning with head, heart and hand is emphasized. Due to the good reputation of the school, a boarding school for foreign children was founded in 2016. There are currently about 50 children living there and about 100 day students. Some of the first graduating classes have pursued university studies and have grown into strong personalities - an important motivation and confirmation for the association to continue investing in the lives of young people.
