Coroplast Global | News | 17 Oct 2023 The Coroplast Group contributes to making cities more livable

In the context of TRANSURBAN Residency, artists as well as employees of urban planning companies deal with the question of what makes public spaces livable. At the stations in Duisburg and Krefeld, we supported the NRW-wide program with adhesive tapes and cables, which were used to create impressive works of art.

Interesting interdisciplinary exchange

Ways in which public spaces can be meaningfully designed and developed into social centers? How do cities deal with the challenges of climate change, consumerism and the mobility revolution? How does the city function apart from commerce – and what can art and urban planning do to counteract the death of inner cities?

TRANSURBAN Residency addresses these questions across city boundaries and disciplines: For in this project for urban art and urban research, international artists, students, lecturers and their ideas meet citizens, citizens as well as municipal administrations and bring their different perspectives together.

Creative use of our products

The TRANSURBAN Residency program, which connects cities, has been visiting cities in North Rhine-Westphalia for three years now - starting with Dortmund and moving on to Gelsenkirchen and Bielefeld. On the last stage for the time being, TRANSURBAN Residency made guest appearances in the Lower Rhine cultural region in Duisburg and Krefeld. Under the motto "Form follows availability," experiments and prototypes were created there in public spaces, working primarily with reused, recycled materials.

In Duisburg, the Coroplast Group supported the landscape architecture collective "VonNull" with two kilometers of orange charging connection lines, which were used to create comfortable lounging and seating areas by weaving them into plain steel frames. For Krefeld, we provided the "Constructlab" network with a large quantity of blue, yellow, green, orange, red, black, purple and white adhesive tapes for their construction and design projects.

Supporting the arts and social commitment for and with the region are of great concern to the Coroplast Group and an integral part of our corporate culture. It was therefore a great pleasure for us to sponsor this project, which combines both aspects so effectively.
