Coroplast Global | News | 06 May 2024 Get a taste of IT on Girls'Day 2024

Programming a computer game yourself – that was one of the highlights of this year's Girls' Day at the Coroplast Group. Six young girls were given exciting and practical insights into everyday life in our IT department.

Analysing hardware and testing software

What does a computer look like on the inside? On Girls' Day, the participants disassembled a computer into its individual parts with the experts from our IT department so that they could take a closer look at the various components. The PC was then reassembled together.

Then it was time for creative design and "programming" with the Scratch software: the young girls were allowed to build their own version of the classic game "Frogger" - a real highlight. In doing so, they learnt the basics of logical and algorithmic processes that are also used in professional software development. Thanks to the creative freedom in the design and the general aim of programming a small game, fun was of course always at the forefront alongside learning.

What is Girls' Future Day?

Girls'Day is a nationwide orientation day for girls to find out about careers and study programmes. It is sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

On Girls' Day, girls learn about professions or study subjects in which the proportion of women is less than 40 per cent, e.g. in the fields of IT, trades, natural sciences and technology. Or they meet female role models in leading positions in business and politics.
