Coroplast Global | News | 04 Apr 2022 With Visionlabs to new impulses in the field of injection moulding

In the search for innovative concepts, our WeWire division relies on the ideas of future industrial and product designers from the University of Wuppertal. As part of "Visionlab", the students analysed user needs, developed product ideas and built high-quality design samples. The result was ten solutions, which they presented at our company at the beginning of March.

With openness and creativity to new innovative impulses

With "Visionlabs“ Bergische Universität Wuppertal offers global players and regional SMEs a platform for visionary product and innovation development. Whether Bosch, Braun, Deutsche Telekom or Johnson&Johnson - the students of the Bachelor's degree programme in Industrial Design and the Master's degree programme in Strategic Product and Innovation Development have already thought up and designed product ideas for numerous companies from the region. So it was a welcome opportunity for our WeWire business division to put the young designers to work on the topic of "New possibilities in injection moulding".

In search of new ideas, openness is needed and often also an impulse from outside. Who is better suited than students who set new impulses with fresh ideas and courageous designs?

Philip Emanuel Schröder | Business Unit Manager WeWire Global Market & Development

From the analysis, to the concept, to the patterns

In regular meetings over the last six months, a wide variety of business areas were discussed without any prohibitions on thinking. Many approaches emerged, were discarded again - and some were concretised. Ten of these approaches then led to concrete product concepts, which the students presented to us at the beginning of March. Three of the concepts are now being further developed by the business unit and tested for feasibility.

It is always the greatest thing for our students when their ideas can serve as a starting point for later implementation. However, the most important thing for us is the exchange of content with the companies and the opportunity to compare our concepts with experts from the field.

Innovation management is a top priority for us

An important part of our strategic innovation management is the regular and open exchange with other companies, start-ups and research institutions. Visionlabs is representative of many other cooperations. Of course, it is also helpful for us as a company when creative students get to know us as providers of interesting, future-oriented products and solutions - after all, today's student could be tomorrow's employee.
